Cummins KTA38-Marine

KTA38-M FEATURES

Cummins KTA38-M series marine main engines are V Type 12-cylinder, 38-liter four-stroke engines with a bore and stroke of 159 mm (6.25 in). These engines are equipped with a PT Fuel System and come with a turbocharger. The prime power range of CCEC K38-M series marine main engines spans from 600 HP to 1000 HP (448 kW to 764 kW). The torque range of the K38-M Series marine main engines is from 2159 N.m to 4188 N.m.

CCEC marine main engines come in different configurations, each offering varying power outputs. Engines with the code “T” in the model name indicate turbocharged engines, while “TA” signifies engines equipped with a turbocharger and water-air intercooler. Engines bearing the code “TAA” come with a turbocharger and air-air intercooler.

Hawks Parts offers both heat exchanger cooling and keel cooling marine main engines based on standard DCEC marine main engines. Additionally, we provide comprehensive life cycle services to all customers, covering design, power system supply, installation, commissioning, after-sales service training, spare parts supply, troubleshooting, and overhaul technical support.

Fuel System

The Cummins PT fuel system can be operated either mechanically or with CENTRY electronics to ensure precise engine fueling. Step Timing Control (STC) enables smooth engine acceleration even under heavy loads.

Cooling System

Choose between keel-cooled or engine-mounted plate heat exchangers, offering reduced installation costs and lower maintenance requirements. Spin-on Cummins water treatment filters are utilized to safeguard against cooling system corrosion.

Air System

Marine-grade air filters featuring air inlet restriction indicators are employed. Twin Cummins turbochargers are specifically optimized for marine applications.

Certifications

The engine complies with either IMO Tier 1, IMO Tier 2, or EU Stage 3a emissions regulations, with certificates of compliance available from the U.S. EPA and Lloyd’s Register of Shipping. It is designed to meet SOLAS requirements. Please consult your local Cummins professional for a comprehensive list of current marine agency approvals for this engine.

Engine Design

The engine boasts a low profile for simplified installation and service. It features replaceable wet cylinder liners, offering extended life and reduced rebuild costs.

Lubrication System

Choose between standard (114 L [30 gal]) or high capacity (185 L [49 gal]) marine-grade oil pans. Cummins offers a spin-on oil filter cartridge for convenient servicing.

Electrical System

The engine features a standard 24V electrical system, with a 12V option available. It utilizes a marine-grade wiring harness.

Exhaust System

Equipped with a dry exhaust manifold featuring water shielding, the engine offers reduced fuel consumption and improved performance.
